What to Expect During Your Wound Care Evaluation
Your visit starts with a review of your wound history, including when it appeared, how it's changed, and any related medical conditions affecting healing. Dr. Enyew then examines the wound for depth, infection, and tissue involvement, and may order imaging such as a digital X-ray when bone involvement is suspected. Your circulation, sensation, and overall foot health may also be assessed to identify factors that could affect healing and help reduce the risk of future complications.
This evaluation determines which advanced wound care technique, or combination of techniques, is right for your specific wound.

Bone Debridement
When infection or damage extends into the bone, surgical debridement removes the affected bone tissue to stop the spread of infection and allow healthy tissue to regenerate. This is often necessary for wounds associated with osteomyelitis or deep diabetic ulcers.
Bone Ablation
In cases where damaged or infected bone needs to be reduced or reshaped rather than fully removed, bone ablation allows for precise, targeted treatment while preserving as much healthy bone structure as possible.
Incision and Drainage of Abscess
Abscesses require prompt drainage to relieve pressure, remove infected fluid, and prevent the infection from spreading to surrounding tissue or into the bloodstream. We perform this procedure under proper anesthesia, followed by wound care to support healing.
Negative Pressure Wound Therapy
Also known as wound VAC therapy, negative pressure wound therapy uses controlled suction to draw out fluid, reduce swelling, and promote blood flow to the wound bed, accelerating healing for wounds that haven't responded to standard treatment.
When to Seek Advanced Wound Care
Not every wound requires advanced treatment, but certain warning signs mean it's time to be seen.
- A wound hasn't improved in two to four weeks
- Increasing redness, swelling, warmth, or drainage
- Fever or chills accompanying a wound
- Visible bone or deep tissue at the wound site
- A wound that keeps reopening after closing
