Relief for Common Foot Nail & Skin Conditions
Nail and skin conditions of the foot are some of the most common reasons patients visit a podiatrist, and while often uncomfortable or embarrassing, most respond well to proper treatment. At our Mission, Rio Grande City, and Weslaco offices, Valley Podiatry and Wound Care Center diagnoses and treats a wide range of nail and skin issues, from infections to ingrown toenails, using precise, minimally invasive techniques whenever possible.
Dr. Samuel Enyew evaluates each condition individually, since nail and skin issues can sometimes resemble one another or signal a different underlying problem, and builds a treatment plan to resolve your symptoms and prevent recurrence.

What to Expect During Your Evaluation
Your visit starts with an examination of the affected nail or skin area, along with a discussion of how long you've noticed symptoms and any home treatments you've already tried. In some cases, a small nail or skin sample may be taken to confirm a fungal infection or rule out other causes. Your overall foot health, medical history, and any factors that may contribute to recurring infections will also be evaluated to help guide treatment recommendations.
This evaluation allows Dr. Enyew to recommend the most effective treatment for your specific condition, rather than a generic over-the-counter approach that may not address the underlying cause.

Recognizing the Signs You Need Treatment
Many nail and skin conditions can be treated effectively before they become more serious. Signs it's time for an evaluation include:
- A toenail that's painful, red, or swollen along the edge
- Nails that are thickened, discolored, or crumbling
- Persistent itching, redness, or peeling on the foot or between toes
- A growth or lesion that's painful, changing, or not responding to home treatment
- Symptoms that haven't improved with over-the-counter products
Early diagnosis can help prevent the condition from progressing and improve the chances of successful treatment.
